Wool is a natural fiber that comes from the fleece of sheep or other animals such as goats, llamas, alpacas, and camels and had been used by humans for thousands of years. Wool is considered a sustainable fiber because it is natural, renewable, biodegradable, breathable, durable, highly versatile and energy-efficient. Due to its antibacterial properties, wool does not require frequent washing. It is also naturally water repellent, fire resistant and long-lasting.
At LOTTA LUDWIGSON we strictly adhere to ethical standards in the sourcing of our wool. Our wool is certified cruelty-free and we take great care to ensure that all of our wool comes from farms that do NOT engage in mulesing. Mulesing is an inhumane practice that involves the removal of animal skin without pain relief in order to prevent infection.
That's why we only use responsible and mulesing-free wool from Uruguay, produced following the Responsible Wool Standard and the Global Organic Textile Standard The wool is yarn-dyed in Austria with special organic dyes according to our color code to ensure its non-harming biodegradability. It is further woven in one of the last traditional mills in Austria which is known for its high quality, fair and eco-friendly production following the Global Organic Textile Standards.
